We are currently closed to submissions.

When open to submissions we accept writing and art from anyone that identifies as LGBTQIA+, we want your work when it’s piping hot and ready. We are looking for pieces that are queer in all senses of the word, but that doesn’t mean they should be limited to traditional ideas of LGBTQ+ experience.

We want pieces that are bizarre and bountiful, that have striking imagery and delicious sound, that know how to work their rhythm, that are haunting or hallucinatory, that are interested in the past and the contemporary, that are fact-full, that tell legends and outright lies, that queer-y history and camp up culture, that are subversive or subterranean, that had no one to sit with in high school, that take a spin with tradition, that include butts and buttresses, that are weird, witchy, wondrous.

Familiarise yourself with the pieces already published here to get a sense of what we like (and take a look at some examples of our favourite things linked below), but also know that we like to be surprised, to find new directions, to take chances.

We publish all sorts of writing, with a central taste for the poetic, from sonnets to creative essays, vignettes to cultural musings, and any experimentations in between.

We also want all kinds of visual art that can be published online – photography, video, illustration, collage, as well as photographs of your sculpture, installations etc.

You’ve got a song or soundscape you want to get out there? We can find a way of doing it!

These are the untamed fields of the internet after all.

Send your submission, along with a short third person bio, your pronouns, social media handles, and any further information you think necessary, to travestiespress@gmail.com. We might suggest small edits or changes, but this will be in conversation with you as the creator.

Below are some FAQ’s, if you have any other queries or ideas, just email us.

How much work can I submit?

We do not have strict limits on how much you should send in a submission, but try to be reasonable. We won’t read your entire manuscript, but if something is longer in form or a little unwieldy in shape we’ll give it a go. We suggest a maximum of around 5 pages of writing, or 10 pieces of artwork.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

Yes, we consider simultaneous submissions, but please let us know quickly if any piece is accepted elsewhere.

What about previously published or exhibited pieces?

Yes! We will consider work that has been previously published or featured before. We recognise that some great work only gets a small print run, or a limited audience. However, you must make this clear in the body of your email, telling us where a piece has appeared before. Also note that we are less likely to accept work still freely available online.

What file type should I send?

Writing should be sent as a .doc or .pdf. All other submissions should be sent as a common high quality file (i.e. a jpg, mp4 etc.), or as a link in the case of very large files (dropbox, wetransfer etc.)

Do you pay?

Unfortunately, we currently have no income and so cannot offer any payment for publication. We will do our best to trumpet your name across the land.
